Ride the Legendary Climbs of the Giro d'Italia

Bormio is one of Europe's great destinations for road cycling. Surrounded by spectacular mountains and connected by a network of historic alpine roads, it provides an exceptional base for exploring the Italian Alps.

Our cycling programme includes some of the most famous climbs in professional cycling.

Passo dello Stelvio – 2,758m

One of the most iconic climbs in the world, the Passo dello Stelvio is a bucket-list ascent for road cyclists.

Climbing from Bormio, the road winds through a spectacular mountain landscape, with 40 hairpin bends leading towards the summit at 2,758 metres. The alternative ascent from Prato dello Stelvio is equally legendary, with its famous sequence of 48 switchbacks.

A true monument of cycling and one of the defining climbs of the Giro d'Italia.

Passo Gavia – 2,618m

A spectacular high-altitude mountain pass connecting Bormio with Ponte di Legno.

The Passo Gavia is famous for its dramatic scenery, narrow mountain roads and rich Giro d'Italia history. The final kilometres climb through an impressive alpine landscape towards the summit, where the views across the surrounding mountains are extraordinary.

Passo del Mortirolo – 1,852m

One of the toughest climbs in Italian cycling.

The Mortirolo is famous for its punishing gradients, with sections exceeding 15%. A regular feature of the Giro d'Italia, it has become synonymous with some of the race's greatest climbing performances.

A demanding but immensely rewarding challenge for experienced cyclists.

Passo di Foscagno – 2,291m

A beautiful mountain pass connecting Bormio with Livigno.

The Foscagno offers a different character to the region's more famous climbs, with long, consistent gradients and spectacular views across the surrounding mountains.

Passo Umbrail – 2,501m

Crossing the Swiss border, the Umbrail Pass provides an alternative route into the spectacular Stelvio mountain region.

A challenging and scenic climb that can be combined with the Stelvio to create an exceptional high-altitude cycling experience.

Lago di Cancano – 1,950m

A beautiful mountain road leading towards the spectacular Cancano lakes.

The climb offers a quieter alternative to the region's famous passes, with impressive mountain scenery and a series of spectacular hairpins overlooking the surrounding valleys.
